Nadine Alexeev (b.2003)

Based in Toronto, Canada

Nadine is a Ukrainian/Russian Toronto-based contemporary painter and interdisciplinary artist.
She is a first generation Canadian whose parents grew up in the USSR. As a result of this displacement and disconnect from ethnic identity, her work aims to connect to the earth and physical body and as the immediate homeplace. Painting acts as a fluid medium for her to visually navigate her understanding/misunderstanding of fragmented identity.

Nadine views the body as the vessel for lived experience and embodied identity, translating these concepts into a unique personal language. She explores themes of self-worth, womanhood, body dysmorphia and social media, filtering through memories of physical sites and ideas of metaphysical being.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Painting) at OCAD University, she enjoys surrounding herself with other creatives and engaging in work that contextualises the diverse perspectives of artists and creatives in Toronto.

Her current art practice consists of the figurative distortion of reality to her own warped perceptions, creating 'wonky' and unsettling confrontational portraits that force viewers to come face to face with their own ideas of self and other.
